.5% SALES SURTAX INFORMATION

SCHOOL BOARD’S .5% SALES SURTAX RESOLUTION #10-04 SUMMARY: A. The .5% surtax will be levied for 10 YEARS starting 1/1/2011 and ending 12/31/2020.  B.  59 other FL School Districts have either a discretionary sales tax or additional millage for public education.  43 Florida School District’s levied a .25 Critical Needs Millage in 2009-2010 to make up for the millage the State took from capital outlay.  C. These tax proceeds DO NOT fund operational expenditures, only capital expenditures for schools with a life expectancy of at least 5 years.  D.  The tax will only apply to the first $5000 of a single purchase and WILL NOT apply to food items or medicine.
